#2 A holiday message from Dr. Kopicki
Good afternoon, Cabarrus County Schools families:
When I spend time with my family during the holidays, I’m reminded just how quickly time moves and how important the work we do together truly is. The students walking our hallways today will soon become the graduates, leaders, and neighbors shaping Cabarrus County’s future. Every decision we make, every lesson taught, and every relationship built helps prepare them for what lies ahead.
As we close out this year, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and pride. Cabarrus County Schools continues to move forward with purpose and momentum. Our students are growing, our educators are leading with excellence, and our schools are filled with energy, creativity, and care. None of this happens by chance. It happens because of the collective commitment of our staff, families, and community.
As we head into winter break, I want to pause and simply say thank you for trusting Cabarrus County Schools with your children.
As a reminder, CCS will be closed for winter break beginning December 22, with traditional calendar students returning on January 5. Our Early College students will return to class on January 7th.
I hope this time offers moments of joy, connection, and rest with those who matter most to you.
Looking ahead to the new year, we remain focused on preparing every student for success academically, socially, and emotionally. Together, we will continue building schools where students feel supported, challenged, and empowered to pursue their dreams.
From the Kopicki family to yours, I wish you a joyful holiday season, a restful winter break, and a Happy New Year filled with hope and possibility. I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in the year ahead.
Stay well,
Dr. John Kopicki
Superintendent, Cabarrus County Schools
#3 🛡️ Holiday Online Safety: A Guide for Cabarrus County Schools Families
The holidays mean more downtime and more screen time. Unfortunately, Cabarrus County Schools wants to remind families that scammers are increasingly targeting students with realistic-looking "holiday deals" and fake giveaways.
Common Holiday Scams
"Free" Gifts: Messages promising free gaming consoles, phones, or prizes in exchange for personal info.
Gaming Deals: Sites offering cheap "V-Bucks" or "Robux" that actually steal login details.
Fake Shopping: Realistic ads for toys or "holiday bundles" that lead to fraudulent websites.
Social Challenges: "Secret Santa" or photo challenges that trick kids into sharing private information.
Red Flags to Watch For
Extreme Urgency: Phrases like "Claim in 5 minutes!" or "Last chance!"
Random Links: Unexpected links sent through DMs, texts, or game chats.
Requests for Data: Any site asking for home addresses, passwords, or phone numbers.
Odd Payments: Apps or sites asking to be paid via gift cards.
How to Stay Safe
Ask Before You Click: Encourage your child to show you any "too good to be true" offers before they interact with them.
Verify Sites: Only shop on well-known, official websites.
Update Devices: Ensure your child's laptop or tablet is running the latest security updates.
Protect Passwords: Remind students never to share passwords, even with friends.
By staying alert, we can ensure our students have a safe and happy winter break!

Home for the holidays: Your child can keep learning over the break with i-Ready!
i-Ready is an online program for elementary and middle school students that supports growth in reading and math. It helps identify what students are doing well and the areas where they can improve. With fun lessons, games, and practice problems tailored to each student’s level, i-Ready makes learning engaging and effective. Teachers also use it to track progress and provide extra support when needed.
During the holiday break, i-Ready is a great way for students to keep practicing skills at home. It reinforces what they are learning in class and provides additional practice in a fun, personalized way. Students can access i-Ready for any device at anytime through Clever . Links to Clever may also be found on your school's website. Parent instructions for Clever can be found in an attachment included with this post.
